Extremadura, national leader in photovoltaic solar power generation

Its share of the national installed photovoltaic solar capacity has also increased, from 25.31% in 2021 to 26.81% in 2022. And indeed... One out of every three new megawatts of photovoltaic power installed last year in Spain is located in this regionThis influences the fact that the percentage of installed power from renewable generation sources in Extremadura exceeds the national average by 21.7 percentage points. 

Besides, 25% of photovoltaic generation in Spain is located in Extremadura, which is also the main national producer of electrical energy from photovoltaic sources, with a production in 2022 of 6,954 GWh (gigawatt-hour).

More than 5,000 new photovoltaic self-consumption installations in 2022 alone

Regarding photovoltaic self-consumption, From 2013 to 2022, a total of 7,023 facilities were put into service in Extremadura.reaching a total installed capacity of 73,573 MW. Of these, In 2022 alone, 5,275 facilities were put into service. with an installed capacity of 45.9 MW, which represented an increase of 345.52% compared to 2021, when 1,184 facilities with an installed capacity of 11.1 MW came into operation.

It is worth mentioning that of these new 5,275 self-consumption photovoltaic installations 4,784 correspond to individuals, 419 to companies and 72 to public administrations.

The aid and subsidies for the installation of photovoltaic panels These are one of the biggest motivations for investing in self-consumption. In Extremadura, the deadline to apply for these subsidies is December 30, 2023, and they are available to both individuals, with subsidies of up to 40.1% of the installation cost, and companies or industries, with subsidies of up to 60.1% of the photovoltaic installation cost.
