Solar energy has been the fastest growing source of renewable energy in the European Union (EU)<\/b> in the first half of 2023, with a<\/span> 13% increase<\/b> compared to the same period in 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the latest <\/span>report on changes in the European energy sector prepared by Ember<\/b><\/a>, a non-profit organization working to accelerate the transition to a clean economy, <\/span>Solar generation accounts for 161% of total EU electricity production<\/b> in the first half of the year, making it the second most important renewable source, behind wind power (32%).<\/span><\/p>\n

This growth in solar energy is due to a number of factors, such as the p<\/span>lower prices for solar panels, the growing demand for renewable energy, and public policies<\/b> that promote their development.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The fall in fossil fuels was mainly due to the decrease in electricity demand, which fell by 51% in the first half of 2023. High energy prices and emergency measures taken by European governments to deal with the energy crisis have also contributed to the fall in fossil fuel generation.<\/span><\/p>\n
